Product Description

The recorder is a traditional woodwind musical instrument belonging to the duct flute family (instruments featuring a whistle-style mouthpiece or fipple). It is distinguished from other flutes by having seven finger holes on the front and one thumb-hole on the back. Historically prominent in Western classical music during the Renaissance and Baroque eras, the recorder experienced a 20th-century revival and is now widely utilized in both professional early music performances and global music education.

The Recorder Family
Recorders are built in various sizes that roughly correspond to human vocal ranges.

The four most common types include:

* Soprano (Descant): The most familiar model, pitched in C. It is highly portable and frequently utilized as a beginner instrument in school music programs.

* Alto (Treble): Pitched in F, the alto is widely recommended by organizations like the American Recorder Society for solo classical literature due to its sweet, rich tone.

* Tenor: Pitched in C, a larger instrument that delivers a deeper, warmer sound profile.

* Bass: Pitched in F, this model usually requires one or more metal keys to help the player comfortably reach the lower tone holes.

Anatomy & Mechanics

A standard modern instrument (following the classic Baroque layout popularized by historical instrument makers) consists of three interlocking sections:

Head Joint: Contains the internal plug (the block or fipple) that directs air against a sharp edge to generate sound.

Middle Body: Features the main finger holes used to alter pitch.

Foot Joint: Features the lowest finger holes, which are often grouped in pairs to easily produce semitones.
